How to Use Arizona ESA Funds for Homeschooling
Homeschooling is an effective way to bring flexibility, creativity, and a personal touch to your child’s education. However, many parents worry about the cost of curriculum and learning materials.
The good news is that Arizona offers a program called the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA), which provides funds to support homeschooling and other forms of home-based education. It’s also available to private-school families, hybrid learners, and students transitioning from public school.
You can use these funds to purchase All About Learning Press programs, which are perfect for creating homeschool curricula and teaching students who could use some extra practice outside the classroom. ESA funding also covers supplies, tutoring, extracurricular classes, and more.Keep reading to learn who qualifies, what the funds can be used for, and how to get started! What Is Arizona’s ESA Program?
Arizona’s ESA program gives families access to public education funding that can be used outside of the traditional school system. Instead of sending funds to a public school, the state deposits a portion of that funding into a parent-controlled account. Families can then use those funds for approved educational expenses.
Arizona’s program is unique because it is available to all K–12 students statewide, making it one of the most flexible options for homeschoolers and many other students that don’t attend traditional day schools. Also, there are currently no income limits to apply — families don't need to meet low-income requirements, fall into a specific income bracket, or demonstrate financial hardship.

Is the Arizona ESA the same as school vouchers?
Yes. Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESAs) are a form of school voucher. School vouchers are taxpayer-funded programs that help families pay for private school, homeschooling, and other educational expenses instead of attending a public school. In Arizona, ESAs are one of the state’s school voucher programs.
Why Many Homeschool Families Use ESA
The ESA program helps to:
- Reduce the cost of homeschooling or alternative schooling
- Create a flexible, personalized education
- Access additional learning resources and support
- Combine home education with outside programs or instruction
- Move at a pace that works for their child, whether they need extra reinforcement or are ahead

Basic Requirements for Homeschool Families
To qualify for Arizona’s ESA program, your child:
-
Must be an Arizona resident
-
Must be eligible for kindergarten (typically age 5)
-
Cannot be enrolled full-time in a public school while receiving ESA funds
Also, the funds must be used for approved educational expenses.
How Much Funding Do Homeschool Families Receive?
Most families receive approximately $7,000–$8,000 per student each year, though the exact amount can vary based on factors like grade level. Students with special needs may receive significantly more funding, which can be especially helpful for families seeking additional learning support or specialized resources. Funds are deposited into ESA accounts and can be used throughout the school year for approved expenses.

"I never do reviews but I had to get on here to say that we absolutely LOVE this curriculum! We are breezing right through it. It is very cut and dry, simple to understand for both the parent and the child. We started on level 1 in September of last year and we are now at the end of level 3. My son truly enjoys it !!! "
